The world's largest single open cut iron ore mine. Discovered in 1957 by veteran prospector Stan Hilditch, the iron ore deposit was named Whaleback because it resembled the shape of a humpback whale.
The tour departs from the Newman Visitors Centre once a day at 9:15am on Mondays through Sundays.

There is a minimum of 4 paying passengers per tour.

The tour last approximately 1.5 hours and passengers are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the tour. Please note that fully enclosed shoes, long sleeved tops to the wrists and long pants to the ankles are essential for the tour. Three quarter sleeves and trousers are not acceptable. We suggest bringing drinking water with you on hot days. Special tours for large groups can be negotiated by prior arrangement. Children 0-3 free - must be accompanied by an adult at all time
